New effect pigments from BASF enable warm colors with antique look for elegant interiors


A gold that is elegant and unobtrusive at the same time and a bold reddish brown with the shine of metal: With Firemist® Velvet Gold and Firemist Velvet Russet, BASF has launched two new effect pigments worldwide. Both color shades complete the Firemist Velvet series, which also includes pearl (white), bronze and copper pigments.

BASF to set up new global business unit combining all pigments activities

Lumina® Royal effect pigments provide new design options for the plastics industry


BASF now offers all five effect pigments of its Lumina® Royal product series for plastics applications. This will enable producers of plastics all over the world to create attractive design options in blue and copper color shades. Already in 2010, BASF introduced the effect pigment Lumina Royal Blue for plastics applications into the market.


BASF expands production capacity and color range for Paliocrom® products


Ludwigshafen, Germany – March 26, 2015 – BASF will expand its capacity for the production of Paliocrom® effect pigments by more than 20 percent by 2017 in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Ludwigshafen, Germany – March 2, 2015 – BASF is launching a new binder – Acrodur® Power 2750 X. The product is designed for the production of natural fiber composites for automotive lightweight applications such as interior car door panels or shelves. As a low-emission alternative to formaldehyde-based reactive resins, Acrodur Power 2750 X gives natural fiber composites high mechanical stability.


BASF to increase production capacities for bismuth vanadate pigments in Besigheim


Besigheim, Germany – February 5, 2015 – BASF is going to significantly increase its production capacities of bismuth vanadate pigments in Besigheim near Stuttgart. The additional capacities will be available as of 2017. Bismuth vanadate pigments are yellow pigments with a special greenish color tone, that BASF markets under the Sicopal® and Paliotan® brand names. Customers use them for the formulation of paints, coatings and plastic coatings.


BASF starts up new polymer dispersions plant in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia

BASF and Glunz jointly develop four new colors for MDF


BASF and Glunz, a manufacturer of wood-based panels, have jointly developed four new colors for medium-density fiberboards (MDF). The color shades – Royal, Curry, Berry and Terra – are based on BASF pigment preparations from the Dispers range. They are distributed under the brand name INNOVUS® Coloured MDF as part of the global INNOVUS décor collection of Glunz.

BASF increases prices for additives for plastic applications as well as for coating applications

BASF increases prices for pigments and dyes worldwide


With effect from September 1, 2014, or as contracts allow, BASF will increase prices for numerous pigments and dyes by up to 15 percent worldwide. The products affected are predominantly azo pigments, yellow and red high performance pigments, effect pigments, phthalocyanines and dyes.

BASF to divest liquid masterbatch business to Audia International


Clermont de l’Oise, France – February 19, 2014 – BASF has signed a contract to divest its liquid masterbatch business in Clermont de l’Oise, France, to Audia International, a large global supplier of polyolefins and color masterbatches. The transaction is expected to close in mid 2014.


BASF to divest Vinuran® PVC modifier business to Kaneka


BASF has signed a contract to sell its Vinuran PVC modifier business to Kaneka Belgium N.V., a subsidiary of Kaneka Corporation, Japan. The transaction comprises intangible assets and inventory. It does not include a transfer of the production assets or employees in Ludwigshafen.


BASF expands capacity for radiation-curable resins and specialty monomers


BASF will increase its annual capacity for manufacturing energy-curable binders – sold under the brand name Laromer® – and specialty monomers in Europe by beginning of 2014. Specialty monomers and energy-curable binders add value in many applications including coatings for furniture and flooring, inks and overprint varnishes as well as lacquers for coating plastic and metal substrates.
