BASF and Oriental Yuhong expand collaboration by co-developing sustainable waterproofing solutions in China
BASF and Oriental Yuhong Waterproof Technology Co. Ltd. (Oriental Yuhong) have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) in China to further strengthen their partnership to co-develop the next-generation of environmentally-friendly waterproofing solutions. The partnership intends to reinforce the strategic cooperation in construction solutions and develop waterproofing solutions with near-zero emissions that will set a new standard in China’s construction market.
BASF and the fine chemical company DIC have reached an agreement on the acquisition of BASF’s global pigments business. The purchase price on a cash and debt-free basis is €1.15 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2020. The divestiture is subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities.

BASF doubles production capacity for adhesive raw material acResin®
BASF has doubled its manufacturing capacity for UV acrylic hotmelts sold under the brand name acResin® by building a second production facility at the Ludwigshafen site in Germany. European Coatings Show 2019: BASF to present new solutions covering the needs of customers
At the 2019 European Coatings Show (ECS), which is going to take place in Nuremberg from March 19 to 21, BASF experts and specialists from BTC, the European distribution organization of BASF, will present new raw materials for the coatings, paint and construction industries at booth 523 in hall 7A. The broad range of products offered by BASF includes dispersions, resins, additives, light stabilizers, antioxidants, pigments, hardeners, cross-linking agents, reactive diluents and solvents.
BASF wins material award for 3D moldable wood fiberboards based on acForm™ binder technology
At the "Haus der Wirtschaft" in Stuttgart, Germany, BASF was honored with the materialPREIS 2018 award by the raumPROBE material library for 3D moldable wood fiberboards (3MF) manufactured with the acFormTM dispersion. The new development ranked first in the category "Process" for providing the furniture and interior design industry with a storage stable composite that can be processed by hot molding.
Increase of BASF production capacities for aliphatic polyisocyanates

As of now Novacolor offers new decorative effect paints under the “Africa”, “Puro” and “Patina Minerale” brand names. The textured plasters meet the challenge of combining design and sustainability: Puro is an opaque mineral water-based innovation based on potassium polysilicate, which is odorless and neither contains volatile organic compounds (VOC) nor Formaldehyde.

BASF has extended its production facilities for Joncryl water-based emulsions. In addition to the production site in Heerenveen, The Netherlands, BASF has ramped up its production of selected Joncryl emulsions at its Ludwigshafen site.
BASF increases prices for polymer dispersions, acrylic hotmelts and powders
Effective March 26, 2018, or as existing contracts allow, BASF will increase its prices in EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) for polymer dispersions by up to 80 euros per metric ton and acrylic hotmelts as well as redispersible powders by up to 140 euros per metric ton.
BASF finalizes the divestiture of its Pischelsdorf production site in Austria to Synthomer Austria GmbH
BASF has completed the announced divestiture of the production site for styrene-butadiene-based paper dispersions in Pischelsdorf, Austria to Synthomer Austria GmbH, a subsidiary of the British specialty chemicals manufacturer Synthomer plc. Consent by the competent antitrust authorities has been obtained.
Ludwigshafen, Germany – January 23, 2018 – With immediate effect or as existing contracts allow, BASF will increase its prices for UV resins (Laromer® product range) in EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) by 3 - 10%, depending on the product type. The price adjustments are necessary due to continued increase of raw material as well as REACH registration costs. UV-resins are used by the coatings, printing, and packaging industries to manufacture UV-curable coatings for, e.g., wood, metal and plastic substrates as well as for overprint varnishes and UV-curable inks.
New curtain coater installed at the BASF Pilot Plant for paper coating in Ludwigshafen
BASF has recently integrated a curtain coater, based on a “VOITH DF Coat slot dye” into its existing pilot facility. This is now available to customers, as well as interested third parties, for application trials with coating colors for paper and board in both the graphic and packaging sectors.

BASF expands paper coating portfolio for the Nordic market at its site in Hamina, Finland
BASF’s new low odor binder for paper coatings, which is based on styrene butadiene, is specially designed for odor sensitive applications in the board and packaging market in the Nordic region. Although applicable for all printing applications, the new product is particularly suitable for food contact and liquid packaging board. The low odor XSB binder is characterized by its minimal content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It complies with all relevant eco label and food contact requirements.
BASF is lifting force majeure for dispersions, dispersion powders and hot melts on acrylic monomer basis with immediate effect
Ludwigshafen, Germany – August 15, 2017 – With immediate effect, BASF is lifting the force majeure status that was declared on October 31, 2016 for dispersions, dispersion powders and hot melts on acrylic monomer basis (Acronal®, acResin®, Acrodur®, ACROSOL® E 20 D, AQAGloss®, Basonal®, Col.9®, Epotal® and Luhydran®) supplied from the Ludwigshafen and Tarragona sites.
BASF to divest its Micronal® PCM business to Microtek Laboratories
Ludwigshafen, Germany – May 17, 2017 – BASF has signed a contract to sell its Micronal® PCM business to Microtek Laboratories Inc.of Dayton, USA. The transaction comprises intangible assets and inventory. It does not include Ludwigshafen production assets or employees. Both companies have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.
Water-based inks and adhesives as a valuable contribution to sustainability in flexible packaging
BASF’s water-based resins for inks and adhesives in flexible packaging are an economically compatible and environmentally friendly alternative to solvent-based technologies. This is the result of a recently completed Eco-Efficiency Analysis conducted by BASF and based on previous Eco-Efficiency Analysis for water-based printing inks for flexible packaging in 2009 as well as data from a recent EEA for adhesives in 2016.
BASF presents new aqueous acrylic binder for nonwovens in construction and abrasive applications
With Acronal 2434, BASF presents a new aqueous acrylic binder for nonwovens meeting high thermo-dimensional stability requirements. The binder is particularly suitable for nonwovens that are used for construction and abrasive applications. The innovative binder complements the comprehensive BASF product portfolio of dispersions and resins, which is going to be presented at booth 2427 at the Index fair in Geneva on April 4 to 7, 2017.

BASF acquires Rolic AG, a specialist in light management for advanced LCD/OLED displays
On February 7, BASF acquired the private company Rolic AG headquartered in Allschwil, Switzerland. Both companies have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction. The transaction includes Rolic’s affiliates in Allschwil, Eindhoven, The Netherlands and Shanghai, China. Regulatory approvals are not required.
